Deep Web And The Darknet
Hearing words like Deep Web and Darknet may seem scary and even fascinating. In fact it may be a fascinating subject that does not usually get talked about on the Web. This might be because people may not be that aware of such things ever existing today in a world connected through the World Wide Web.
People always going online usually feel that information available all over the world can somehow be made available on the Web. Some even think that the Web contains all the available information online that can be accessed by online users in one way or the other. Such an assumption may be correct up to a certain point, but this is not usually the case. There are areas in the World Wide Web that actually may not be easily accessed by the public. And they usually are contained in the Deep Web or Darknet.
Although they might sound sinister in someway, the Deep Web and darknets are actually so-called because of the nature of their availability to the online public. While they also have somewhat the same nature in this case, the Deep Web and darknets may also have certain contrasts on certain aspects.
The Deep Web is simply content available on the World Wide Web that are not that easily accessible to the online public. Contents found on the Deep Web may have been either done on purpose or simply by accident. Different reasons may arise on how this is so.
According to Mike Bergman, the person credited for coining the term Deep Web, searching for information on the Internet may be likened to a boat spreading a net over the ocean. The net may be able to catch a great deal of information, but there are certain things that are just not reachable in the deep and are easily missed. That information “caught” inside the net is being referred to as the surface Web. Those that are usually missed generally form the Deep Web.
Some content that are unreachable in the Deep Web may be there for two main reasons. First, they may have been created and made for just the very purpose of content available online but only to the people who might know about them or how to access them. Second, some of the content found on the Deep Web may be there by accident. One possible reason for this is that the website that contains such information may have failed to get indexed by the online search engines. Since it is through online search engines that most people generally try to find information on the Web, failure of being indexed might therefore make them invisible to the general online public.
As for darknets, these are usually a network of PC’s that are connected to each other as well as on the Web. But the difference is that dark nets are usually closed networks that offer limited access only to selected few of known users online. This is usually made up of a network that tries to gain access to information provided by the connected PC’s online but does not want the scrutiny or the prying eyes of the public. One of the main reasons may be to make the information shared within the network confidential and private or to lessen the risk by malware or virus threats.
