I picked up a box of these solely because they were on sale and I’m currently in the middle of a cold. I’ve only been using them for maybe 2-3 days and have gone through less than 10 tissues because I don’t know how much more I can take. My nose is raw, red and burns like there’s no tomorrow. These tissues contain citric acid and sodium lauryl sulfate, which if you’re not aware is a very harsh detergent found in many products that can irritate sensitive skin [I know from past experiences and now buy sulfate-free toothpaste, shampoo, facial cleansers, etc;] Both of these ingredients make for an AWFUL tissue when you’re using it to rub against your nose a couple of times a day. And god help you if you accidentally wipe your eyes with these tissues – THEY STING. It also doesn’t help these tissues aren’t the softest things in the world; I’ve had worse but also better. Also, they are 3-ply but they fall apart very easily. Take a tissue out of your pocket and you might only get one or two layers from it. They also easily separate when you’re using them. To their credit, if you’ve got all 3 layers together then the tissues are fairly sturdy and don’t seem to tear quite as easily but that’s the only positive I can find with them.
I don’t know why anyone would even need/want anti-viral tissues to begin with – do some people like to pick used Kleenex out of the trash and play with them? If so, you’ve got bigger problems to deal with! – but these are just awful. When I’m sick I want to use something that’s comforting and soothing, not something that’s going to give me more problems. I wouldn’t use these again even if someone gave them to me for free!
I tutor kids in my house, and kids carry every germ in the world home from that petri dish known as school. So, along with lots and lots and lots of handwashing, these kleenex help things in check.
***I am a firm believer in natural non-toxic products, and if I didn’t work with lots of different kids in my home, I would probably just use regular kleenex.
